We have been using our new Visualiser during practical classes in Home Economics with most year groups. This device projects a close-up of the teacher’s work area onto the smartboard, allowing pupils to see demonstrations of practical skills and techniques from their own stations. It also records demonstrations which can then be replayed.
The visualiser that the school received from an Epson model. More info here.
How has the technology enhanced learning and teaching within your school/department?
We can now be sure that each pupil can see all demonstrations but more importantly, they can see them in greater detail, as the projected image is larger than life. Pupils have been practicing intricate knife work and developing their fine motor skills, in particular in preparation for Hospitality exams. For junior classes, we have been able to record basic processes and techniques which allows us to provide help to individual pupils while the rest of the class is able to watch them on the screen. As a result pupils are more independent and are developing self-assessment strategies by continually evaluate their own success against the demonstration shown.
Any tips for other schools looking to do a similar project?
The Visualiser is extremely easy to install and use.
Next steps for the project...
We will continue to use this device on a regular basis and while we are able to share it in the department, ideally we would like one in each classroom.
The Digital Learning Team will add news or examples of good practice on here so keep checking back for up to date info.
